The Lavender grown is the French variety Maillette L. Angustifolia known for its superb and very high quality oil. It produces a small amount of high quality oil for the perfume and aromatherapy markets
The oil produced is called Essential Oil rather than absolute oil. Essential oils are produced through steam distillation rather than by the use of solvents or gasses as is the case with absolute oils. This means the oil you are using is unadulterated in any way and is produced only with the use of steam from pure fresh water from the chalk aquifers of the South Downs.
The word Lavender is thought to have been derived from the Latin word Lavare meaning “to wash” and its use as a perfume in bathing goes back to Roman times. The Greeks also used Lavender for medicinal purposes and lavender does have a cleansing effect on both body and mind.
